SNOW Contemporary is pleased to announce Hideki Iinuma's solo exhibition "Tokyo Paradise" from 7 through 29 September, 2018.
Hideki Iinuma enrolled in the Nantes School of Art (France) after completing M.F.A. at Aichi University of the Arts in 2002, and had been based in Europe until 2006. After returning back to Japan in 2006, Iinuma has been showcasing works in various venues unlimited to the existing art spaces such as an open-air installation in Rokko Mountain for “Rokko Meets Art 2013” “LUMINE meets ART AWARD 2015” where he exhibited inside LUMINE Shinjuku and a dynamic installation of approximately 120 wooden sculptures with stories in each exhibition for “Fighting The Goddesses” at Matsumoto City Museum of Art in 2016. With his fascinating and urbanized perspective of creation, each exhibition has been collecting considerable applause each time he has exhibited.
Inspired by the complex power and beauty of the women who strongly live through the contemporary society, this exhibition sets its theme on "Tokyo"―the city which will be hosting the Olympic games in two years―and will showcase sculptures of women who live in the city.
What kind of place would "Tokyo Paradise" be in Iinuma's interpretation? And, how would he describe the women who live in the city of Tokyo today? We hope this exhibition will intrigue inspirations for such queries.
